Sands Academy Assists Team Member in Attaining US Citizenship
As part of its commitment to helping Team Members thrive in the hospitality industry through educational partnerships and providing them with an outstanding working environment, Sands Academy has offered a course “Road to Citizenship” through Sands Academy, Las Vegas Sands’ Learning and Development program. The course was held by an immigration officer, teaching Team Members how easy the process is.
“The course really helped me understand the process,” Raquel Cortez Robles, Talent Acquisition Specialist, said. “It can be very intimidating and I always thought I needed a lawyer and a lot of money to even start the process. I took the course and I realized I could do it all myself. It gave me confidence and the immigration officer was able to answer all of my questions. It was as easy as submitting an application on my own and my fiancé was even able to go through the process with me to attain his citizenship.”
Cortez Robles became a citizen on March 10, 2018 after living in Las Vegas for the past 13 years. She said that becoming a US citizen is very important to her because she now has the opportunity of being heard and voting for what she believes is right. She said being a citizen now makes her feel different, but in a good way because she’s proud of herself and happy. She said she feels at home, at peace, fearless and she’s not worried about being separated from her family.
“I really wanted to do this for my son, for his future,” she said. “I try to teach him to never give up and strive to always move forward and meet his goals. For the company to offer this opportunity makes me very proud to work here. Las Vegas Sands cares about us as Team Members and this is one reason why I love working here."
