Safeway Awarded for Hunger Relief Efforts
A Colorado food bank thanks Safeway for ongoing support, especially during historic flooding
Community Food Share, a Feeding America food bank that serves Colorado’s Boulder and Broomfield Counties, awarded Safeway with an Access Award for our support.
Safeway has been providing donations to the Community Food Share for years. In 2013, our stores in Boulder, Centennial and Longmont donated 192,877 pounds of food and other goods to the food bank. Pre-filled bags of food sold at local stores during our annual Help Us End Hunger campaign also go to the food bank. In addition, Safeway distribution center employees provide helpful advice to food bank staff on the safe storage and handling of food.
Last fall, following the disastrous floods throughout Colorado, the Community Food Share needed extra supplies to help those who were affected. Safeway coordinated a 40,000 pound protein donation from Smithfield. The meat helped the food bank respond to the unprecedented challenge.
Safeway is honored to receive the Access Award and we thank Community Food Share for all they do to help people get the nourishment and care they need.
