Safety Month: Ensuring All Employees Are Safe Everywhere, Every Day
Using our Health & Safety program to help our employees feel safe bringing their whole selves to work, whether in the field, in the office, or at home
Tetra Tech uses our Health & Safety (H&S) program to help our employees feel safe bringing their whole selves to work, whether in the field, in the office, or at home.
Since the start of the pandemic, we have adjusted to working in different environments, mostly in our own homes. Many of us have probably noticed that H&S elements of our work-from-home setup could be improved. Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you evaluate your workspace:
- Are your electrical outlets free of clutter and not overloaded?
- Is your workspace in line with an ergonomic setup?
- Do you have clear pathways to walk to and from your workspace? Staying home when we don’t feel well
Addressing H&S practices in your home is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and those who live or visit.
When conducting fieldwork, we apply the hazard risk management approach that includes taking the time to look around, assess any hazards associated with our work, and put in place processes to prevent any identified injuries or risks. In using this trusted method, a risk assessment can go a long way in preventing harm to yourself and those around you. Taking a short period of time to think through the implications of what you are doing may save you more time in the long run by preventing injury or safety incidents.
Remember, wherever you are, be a STAR:
- Stop
- Take the time to look
- Assess the risk
- Respond: Put measures in place to be safe
The Tetra Tech H&S Program has many resources available to help our employees improve their safety wherever they are.
When conducting work around the world, we recognize that some members of our diverse workforce may be more vulnerable based on their identity or perceived characteristics related to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and/or religion. As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure all employees feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work, our H&S team works with our Diversity & Inclusion Council to develop tools to appropriately evaluate and mitigate potential identity-based risks.
