RSF Social Finance Releases Report on Financing a Sustainable Food System

(3BL Media) San Francisco, CA - August 2, 2012 - RSF Social Finance (RSF), a leading financial services organization providing capital to innovative social enterprises, has released a new report titled “Bridging the Gaps: Funding and Social Equity Across the Food System Supply Chain.”

The report, produced with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, examines the current state of funding allocated to building a just and sustainable food system. Specifically, it looks at where capital is flowing, where it is not flowing, and the approaches needed to increase the movement and effectiveness of capital where gaps exist.

There is an ever-increasing dialogue on building and financing a sustainable food system. RSF adds to the conversation by looking more broadly at these gaps in funding across the entire supply chain and explores how they impact social justice issues.

“Our goals with this paper are two-fold. First, we want to help funders build a foundation of greater knowledge to encourage collaboration among peers and with entrepreneurs. Second, we want to propose solutions for designing targeted, high-impact, and effective funding strategies to increase the flow of capital,” says Taryn Goodman, RSF’s Director of Impact Investing and author of the report. “Just as the creation of a healthier food system will require creativity and innovative solutions, so will the capital needed to support it.”
