Recyclebank Earns Consecutive B Corporation Certification
(3BL Media) New York City, NY - March 5, 2012 - Recyclebank®, the company that rewards people for taking everyday green actions with discounts and deals from local and national businesses, today announced the re-certification of its 2009 B Corporation status, issued by B Lab, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. As a Certified B Corp, Recyclebank meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, including consideration for decisions affecting every stakeholder: employees, suppliers, communities, consumers and the environment.
“We’re proud to continue as a B Corp, as the standards and goals not only align with the Recyclebank mission but also fortify a community of businesses dedicated to making decisions that collectively benefit the environment and society, ” said Ian Yolles, chief sustainability officer at Recyclebank. “Employees, shareholders and customers are increasingly expecting companies to be more involved in solving our social and environmental issues, and the growth of this certification along with the supporting legislation is an excellent indicator that both business and policy leaders are acknowledging this.”
Recyclebank joins more than 500 Certified B Corporations across 50 industries, representing a diverse multi-billion marketplace. The original B Corp certification methodology was developed over two years ago, and has been reviewed and edited by more than 600 entrepreneurs, investors, thought leaders and academics. Open source performance standards and impact metrics from numerous sources, including the Global Reporting Initiative, Wiser Business (a project of Natural Capital Institute), and the Social Venture Network maintain the assessment process, and it is within that long-standing methodology that Recyclebank has been awarded a re-certification of its B Corp status.
“The B Corp mission is to harness the power of the private enterprise to create public benefit; Recyclebank’s unique model to incent sustainability by rewarding green behavior embodies that spirit and has earned them this re-certification,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “As each B Corp member excels socially, environmentally and financially, we are getting closer to our goal.”
