Recruiter Q&A: Deloitte's Andrea Hampton
I heard Deloitte has a pre-MBA internship. Tell us more about that.
Newly admitted students apply to participate in one of two tracks: a four-week paid internship or a three-day summit focused on building leadership, consulting skills, and networking opportunities within Deloitte.
Do you expect your total number of MBA hires to increase or decrease this year?
Our demand for MBA talent has been increasing year-over-year and this trend is expected to continue. Our practices focused on health care and life sciences and consumer and industrial products are two areas that are growing at a fast pace.
What should a job candidate know about your company before he or she takes part in an on-campus interview?
We strongly encourage students to participate in our on-campus events and network with our practitioners, especially former Deloitte employees who are their classmates at business school. Students should know that our interview process includes behavioral and case components to evaluate their skills and abilities.
What percentage of your MBA interns typically receives job offers at the end of their internships?
About 90 percent of our Summer Associate interns receive full-time offers.
Why should an MBA student want to work for your company? What’s different or unique about the culture, the opportunities, or the work itself?
We are committed to our new hires’ development: We have an apprenticeship model where our new hires work side-by-side with—and are mentored by—partners, principals, directors, and senior managers. New hires are encouraged to take on as much responsibility as they can. MBA hires also receive professional development opportunities through formal leadership training programs.
How do you choose the schools you recruit at?
We select schools based on past positive experiences, quality of faculty and career services, and the school’s alumni base represented at Deloitte, to name a few criteria. We evaluate our school roster on a regular basis and also seek talent from international and niche/specialized MBA programs that align with specific industry or functional talent needs.
