Rebuilding Together to Provide Critical Home Repairs to Women-Owned Homes During She Builds Event
Event to include women-led home repairs educational workshops for community residents
Seattle, Wash., October 18, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit in safe and healthy housing that provides low-income homeowners with critical home repairs and revitalizes communities, will join together with its affiliate, Rebuilding Together Seattle to host a She Builds event. Volunteers will renovate four homes in the Allentown neighborhood of Tukwila, while home renovation and design professionals will lead home repair workshops for the community.
Homes being repaired are owned by women who have lived in the community for several years and would like to remain there but are unable to afford repairs. The home repair workshops will be led by women. Attendees will learn repairs they can implement in their own homes from interior designer Rebecca West and handywoman Amy Ecklund. Workshops will include interior design tips, information on home maintenance, and basic plumbing and electrical work.
She Builds is a nationwide event series, created by Rebuilding Together, featuring community revitalization projects that create real change for women - providing critical home repairs and community restoration to women in need, while giving women the confidence and skills to maintain a safe and healthy home. She Builds is held in collaboration with Rebuilding Together affiliates in local cities.

According to the National Women’s Law Center, more than one in seven women and more than one in five children live in poverty. More than half of all low-income children live in families headed by women. Two-thirds of low-wage workers are women working for just $10.50 or less, most without a spouse’s income to rely on to support their family.
