August 29, 2013 /3BL Media/ - PwC US and Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS) announced that registration opened today for the third PwC-KWHS Seminar for High School Educators on Business and Financial Responsibility. The professional-development opportunity targeting educators, principals, administrators and superintendents from the eastern United States, will be held at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Oct. 25-27. Educators interested in applying may do so through the online application process.

“With PwC’s contributions, we are able to bring this conference back to the East Coast to reach another audience of educators,” said Mukul Pandya, executive director and editor-in-chief of Knowledge @ Wharton. “Both of the two earlier seminars received extremely positive feedback from attendees. Educators were stimulated by the information on financial literacy and responsibility and expressed an optimistic and invigorated attitude about the new school year.”

Through the seminar, PwC and KWHS will demonstrate the importance of weaving themes of leadership, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business responsibility into a variety of core classes. All seminar attendees will receive PwC’s financial literacy curricula, which includes detailed lesson plans and activities, and access to a host of educational materials offered on the KWHS portal. A full agenda, along with details on speakers, will be posted online.

Ninety-eight percent of educators who participated in the summer seminar reported being either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with seminar content, and nearly 60% of attendees reported a significant amount of improvement in comfort levels with teaching financial literacy and business responsibility.

“Educational institutions across the country are facing challenging hurdles, from budget cuts to staffing restrictions, often leaving educators – including those who teach business and finance – with insufficient resources,” said Shannon Schuyler, corporate responsibility leader at PwC US. “These seminars provide us with an opportunity to equip teachers with a foundation of training, resources and support networks, so they can provide their students with the financial knowledge that empowers them to make well-informed and responsible fiscal decisions in the future.”

As part of PwC’s Earn Your Future commitment, the collaboration between PwC US and KWHS began with a seminar in 2012 at the Wharton School in Philadelphia. A second seminar in June 2013 drew attendees to the Wharton School’s campus in San Francisco. More than 300 high school educators have attended these seminars or logged on to the live-streaming component.

For attendees selected through the online application process, PwC and KWHS will cover certain event costs related to transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, teaching sessions and conference materials.

PwC and KWHS plan to continue their collaboration and commitment to spreading financial literacy and will host another seminar, primarily for West Coast educators, on Wharton’s campus in San Francisco on June 16-18, 2014. Details about that seminar will be available in 2014.
