Pfizer Foundation Grantee Sevamob Uses Entrepreneurial Approach to Provide Low-cost Care in India and South Africa

Shelley Saxena is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sevamob, which operates 18 mobile clinics in India and South Africa that provide care for more than 20,000 people each month. Shelley is using his entrepreneurial background to redefine expectations about the cost of quality healthcare for low-income patients. Sevamob’s clinics provide critical access to primary and preventive care using a subscription-based model. 

“Eighty percent of the care we provide is on site so the patient, first of all, does not have to travel, and they get the service when they want it and … where they want it, and I think that’s the biggest benefit,” Shelley says in this video. “You might think that this costs a whole lot. Guess what? In India, we are sustainably providing our mobile clinic services for $10 per person, per year.”

The Pfizer Foundation recently awarded Global Health Innovation Grants to 15 organizations, including Sevamob, that are using innovative approaches to address healthcare challenges in underserved communities around the world. Sevamob is using its Global Health Innovation Grant to set up new mobile clinics in impoverished neighborhoods in two states of India and in Johannesburg, South Africa.
