Pfizer Foundation Grantee North Star Alliance Uses Innovative Approach to Provide Care “At the Right Locations and at the Right Time”

Eva Mwai is the Regional Director for East Africa with North Star Alliance, which has built a network of 36 roadside clinics made from refurbished shipping containers throughout 11 countries in Africa. North Star Alliance’s clinics provide health services along major transportation routes using scalable and sustainable practices. This unique public-private partnership model provides low-cost primary and sexual healthcare to mobile, at-risk individuals.

“Continuum of care is very important, and for someone who has a chronic case that requires medication throughout, missing one tablet in one day means a lot to his life and could lead to death,” Eva explains in this video. “Ensuring that services are available at the right locations and at the right time is very important for these populations.”

North Star Alliance is one of 15 organizations to recently receive a Global Health Innovation Grant from the Pfizer Foundation. The grants are aimed at improving healthcare delivery and advancing innovative approaches to addressing complex health issues. North Star Alliance is using its Global Health Innovation Grant to expand service delivery in Inchope, Mozambique. Plans include a new wellness center, new staff recruitment and training.
