Paving the Way Forward With Education
If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.
“I always dreamt of being a teacher and will dedicate my life and resources to empower children through education,” said Rosmidar Yati, 44, a kindergarten (KG) teacher at Anwar Karim I Sorek, Pangkalan Kuras, located in PT Musim Mas Sorek. Rosmidar graduated from the University of Riau with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, majoring in early childhood education (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini – PAUD). She started her journey as a KG teacher in 1996 and has been teaching at private schools in Pekanbaru for 14 years prior to joining Anwar Karim I.
She took great pride in her profession as she believes that a nation’s future depends on its children being able to flourish. As a teacher, she feels a huge sense of responsibility to guide them in reaching their utmost potential. “Endless patience, compassion, and discipline are top three qualities KG teachers should possess,” said Rosmidar Yati.
On a daily basis, she teaches children between four to five years old, the golden age to develop children’s skills, such as understanding and speech. Rosmidar helps to shape the future minds of Indonesia through creative learning sessions, group discussions, and morning assembly drills and prayers.
Besides teaching, she is an active member of both KG teachers’ working groups and associations. She was recently selected as the only representative from Pelalawan, Riau Province to the BAN PAUD PNF (National Accreditation Agency For Early Children And Nonformal Education; Badan Akreditasi Nasional Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini dan Pendidikan Nonformal). As an assessor, her primary role is to evaluate schools’ accreditation. So far, she has assessed 22 schools across Riau. She views this role as a platform to create an ideal and equal education system that will benefit communities on a larger scale. Her involvement in several associations and role as assessor allows her to actively share her knowledge and address different challenges faced by teachers.
In 2015, Rosmidar was awarded Riau’s Most Outstanding Kindergarten Teacher and represented the province in the national-level award. This achievement is a testament to her commitment, dedication, and supportive working environment.
“The management wholeheartedly encourages us to enroll in various activities to improve our knowledge and skill and assist us along the process. For example, when I participated in the outstanding teacher and accessor programs, the company supported me by allowing me to take time off for this program and sponsored me throughout the process. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity and support from management to improve my knowledge, and I also have the full support from both my family and colleagues at the same time,” said Rosmidar as she recalled her experiences.
