(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) San Antonio, TX - October 17, 2011 - Operation Homefront, a national non-profit organization providing emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors, has received a $750,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation that will help Wounded Warriors with home projects.

The grant will be used to help repair, rehabilitate and retrofit homes of Wounded Warriors in locations around the country.  In addition to funding, Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force, will provide their time and talents to many of the projects.   The grant also will help provide transitional family housing for Wounded Warriors leaving the military due to their injuries through the Operation Homefront Village programs near Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas, and San Diego, Calif.

“We deeply appreciate The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to our military families,” said Jim Knotts, President and CEO of Operation Homefront.  “That commitment is reflected not only in the generous donation by The Home Depot Foundation, but also in the personal dedication of The Home Depot employees volunteering their own time to give our Wounded Warriors a place they can call home.”

“We are committed to ensuring that every veteran has a safe place to call home,” said Kelly Caffarelli, President, The Home Depot Foundation.  “Operation Homefront is one of the key organizations working to address the needs of injured service members and their families, and we are honored to help them increase their capacity to serve those who have served us all.”

Today’s announcement is the sixth of weekly grant announcements during The Home Depot Foundation’s “Celebration of Service” campaign to honor U.S. military veterans. Each Monday between September 11 and Veterans Day (November 11), The Home Depot Foundation is announcing major grants to veterans’ initiatives for a total of $9.1 million by Veterans Day.  Grants announced during “Celebration of Service” are part of The Home Depot Foundation’s commitment of $30 million over three years to veterans’ housing needs.  Visit www.homedepotfoundation.org/celebrationofservice to learn more.
