NYC and GE Foundation Developing Futures™ in Education Districts Continue CCSS Collaboration

Building on the work begun in February 2011, the seven GE Foundation Developing Futures™ in Education Districts continued their collaboration around the adoption of the Common Core State Standards this summer, through a second visit to NYC and participation in the GE Foundation Summer Conference in Orlando.

Supported by generosity of the GE Foundation, on May 19^th and 20^th district leadership from Atlanta, Cincinnati, Erie, Louisville, Milwaukee, and Stamford visited NYC to share their districts’work-to-date and future plans towards implementing the Common Core. This working group spent the first day with NYC DOE’s Academic Quality Team, Office of Achievement Resources, and the CCSS pilots, discussing specific challenges of implementation and working in cross-district groups to offer constructive support. Participants also took part in a presentation from the Curriculum Alignment Pilot, and the CFI Institute team shared NYC’s 2011-12 Instructional Expectations and accompanying professional learning activities. On day two, the group attended a session of the high school performance based assessment pilot in math, led by PD partners Stanford Center for Assessment Learning and Equity (SCALE).

Districts welcomed this opportunity; one attendee noted: “these sessions have been extremely beneficial for us in reflecting on our current roll-out work, and we really hope this collaboration continues. I am leaving with tools and ideas that I share with my team to inform our future work.”
