November 4, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Today, Novo Nordisk was recognised as a Nordic leader for the quality of climate change related information that it has disclosed to investors and the global marketplace through CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).

The company received a perfect score of 100 out of 100 for its disclosure of high quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change programme. The score puts Novo Nordisk at the top of the Nordic Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) released today.

“Since 2004, Novo Nordisk has made carbon reduction a top priority in our actions and reporting,” says Dorethe Nielsen, Senior Director of Corporate Environmental Management at Novo Nordisk. “We are very pleased with a perfect score and the recognition for all the effort we have made to reduce our CO2 emissions”

Novo Nordisk’s CDP performance score, ranking company’s carbon reducing efforts from A to C, has remained at B. The ranking reflects initiatives including process optimisations, improved energy efficiency and an increase in the share of renewable energy. The average performance score of the CDLI is C.

Novo Nordisk’s ambition is to continuously decouple its environmental impacts from business growth. The company has successfully reduced its carbon emission from production by 45% compared to 2004, a period marked by a 206% growth.

The news comes three weeks ahead of COP21, the UN climate change conference, when national leaders meet to agree a global deal to reduce carbon emissions and limit temperature warming.

About CDP
CDP, formerly Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information.

The reported data for the 2015 index has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. At the request of 822 investors who represent €86 trillion in assets, thousands of companies submit annual climate disclosures to CDP.  Top scores indicate a high level of transparency in the disclosure of climate change-related information, providing investors with a level of comfort to assess corporate accountability and preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.
