North Carolina's Senator Kay Hagan Visits Campbell’s Maxton Plant

It didn't take long for Kay Hagan to begin peppering Plant Manager Sam Morrone with questions during her recent stop at Campbell's Maxton, N.C., plant. But the freshman senator from North Carolina became most animated on the plant floor, when she spied the new aseptic line producing Swanson Chicken Broth.

"I didn't know a product that I use all the time was made right here in North Carolina," Hagan exclaimed.

Elected to Congress in 2008, Hagan toured Maxton in late October. At the plant, she held a news conference and discussion with officials from Robeson County Community College and Campbell about work force development and job training. Hagan thanked Campbell for its recent plant expansions in the state and its close affiliation with the college, which recently received a $25,000 grant from the Campbell Soup Foundation for scholarships.

Senator Hagan also was briefed on Campbell's work on health and wellness issues by Kelly Johnston, Vice President-Government Affairs, and on Maxton's leadership in the community by Merrideth Hale, Senior Human Resources Manager. Hagan serves on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees the Food and Drug Administration, and is active on health and nutrition issues.
