Nominate Your Company for the 2015 WEC Gold Medal Award for Sustainability (DUE AUG 29)
August 21, 2014 /3BL Media/ - The World Environment Center (WEC) is currently accepting nominations for the 31st WEC Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development. Global corporations demonstrating a unique and sustained contribution to sustainable development will be eligible for consideration. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, August 29, 2014 through WEC's website. Self-nominations are welcome. WEC membership is not required as a criterion for submitting a nomination.
Presented annually since 1985, the WEC Gold Medal Award is the most prestigious recognition of a global company's ongoing commitment to sustainability, as embodied by a unique signature contribution that is part of the winning company’s global vision and commitment to sustainable development. The signature contribution may be an innovative application of international economic, environmental, and/or social solutions to sustainability challenges. An independent jury of international experts in business and sustainability selects the Gold Medal awardee.
Volkswagen Group was the recipient of the 2014 Gold Medal Award, selected in part for its “Think Blue” sustainability initiative. On May 15, 2014 at WEC’s annual Gold Medal Gala in Washington, D.C., the Gold Medal Award was presented to Mr. Christian Klingler, member of Volkswagen AG’s Board of Management for Sales & Marketing. At the following day’s Gold Medal Colloquium, “Preparing Business Leaders for a Sustainable Future,” senior Volkswagen executives and leaders from business and academia provided a candid and detailed glimpse into the future strategies for sustainability partnerships between business and universities.
Previous recent recipients of the WEC Gold Medal Award include: Unilever (2013), IBM (2012), Nestlé (2011), Walmart (2010), The Coca-Cola Company (2009), Marks & Spencer (2008), Alcan (2007), ABN AMRO Bank (2006), Starbucks (2005), Johnson Controls Inc. (2004), Ricoh Group Ltd. (2003), CEMEX (2002), and The Royal Dutch/Shell Group (2001).
