New Plaza and Park Enhance Downtown Spokane Experience

Avista's Huntington Park, along the banks of the Spokane River, was first developed in 1930 and named in honor of the company's third president, D.L. Huntington. It was redeveloped in 1974 at the same time as the 1974 World's Fair that was held in Spokane, the smallest city ever to host such an exposition. The park was once again redeveloped in 2014 in celebration of Avista's 125th anniversary. The renovation and enhancements include work on the walkways, grassy areas and structures to provide residents and visitors greater access to the Spokane River and views of the falls, along with interpretive signage to tell the stories of the city and those who made it great

Designed to provide people with improved access and connection to the river via Huntington Park, Avista paid for the development of a new plaza at Spokane’s City Hall. The plaza is a gift to Spokane. It creates open-air space for gatherings and river viewing and includes two water features and a fire feature. For the first time in more than 100 years, the view of the spectacular lower falls of the Spokane River is now open for easy viewing from the park, the plaza or the streets of Spokane.
