New ISO Standard for Businesses to Measure Their Water Footprint

Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a new global standard – ISO 14046 – that will enable businesses and governments to measure their ‘water footprint’ or the impact on the environment due to their water use and pollution.
The new ISO international standard for water has been released at a time when the global concerns regarding water sustainability are at an all-time high. Large rivers around the world, including the Colorado River in the US and the Yellow River in China, do not even reach the sea in most years. The drought in California is posing a major challenge for the state to manage its water supplies.
