National Grid’s Statement in Response to Regional Transportation & Climate Initiative
A regional focus on reducing emissions in the transportation sector is the right thing to do for our economy and our environment. Just as we’ve supported energy efficiency programs and the expansion of renewables to lower emissions in the power sector, National Grid is ready to support our customers and communities in this next step in the clean energy transition. Through our leadership on the Alliance to Save Energy’s Transportation Commission - a new initiative to slash U.S. transportation energy use by half by 2050 – we hope to find scalable solutions that work for our customers and reduce harmful emissions in the sector.
Across our footprint, National Grid is helping expand deployment of charging infrastructure, informing customers about electric transportation options, and preparing for future integration of electric vehicles into the grid. We currently operate 150 public charging stations across MA, NY, and RI, serving thousands of drivers in partnership with the local businesses who host the charging stations. Under our Electric Vehicle Market Development proposal in Massachusetts, currently awaiting approval by the Department of Public Utilities, we would build on this experience to help develop up to 1,200 charging ports across Massachusetts over the next 3 years.
