More Than 500 GE Volunteers Support Salt Lake City’s Kostopulos Dream Foundation with Community Service Day
(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Salt Lake City, UT - October 18, 2011 - GE Healthcare employees in the Salt Lake City-area will participate in GE’s Community Service Day to help improve resources for the Kostopulos Dream Foundation program Camp Kostopulos. Camp Kostopulos is a summer camp dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through recreation, education and growth experiences. The event brings together more than 500 Salt Lake City-based employees, retirees and other volunteers to lead several projects to improve the environment and resources at Camp Kostopulos. GE volunteers will dedicate time, effort and expertise through activities such as construction and painting of large murals, landscaping, repairs and maintenance. GE Healthcare’s Community Service Day is Monday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Since 1967, the Kostopulos Dream Foundation has been dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Camp Kostopulos is a residential summer camp where children, teens, and adults with disabilities gain new skills and enrichment through outdoor recreation. Campers build confidence through activities such as fishing, horseback riding, swimming, navigating ropes courses, singing and arts and craft projects as well as making new friends. The camp offers year-round recreation for children, teens and adults.

GE coordinates volunteer efforts company-wide by keeping a close eye on societal needs and inviting all employees to work together to build stronger communities. GE employees and retirees contribute more than one million hours of service annually to local community initiatives, and there are now more than 175 GE Volunteers councils located in more than 46 countries around the world.

The Kostopulos Dream Foundation received a $17,000 grant from the GE Volunteers Grant Committee for Community Service Day projects.

The Kostopulos Dream Foundation is an agency dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Since 1967 we have offered recreational opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities. Our longest running program, Camp Kostopulos, is a residential summer camp where kids, teens, and adults with disabilities are able to engage in a variety of activities. During a week-long stay, campers go fishing, ride horses, camp out, sing songs, work on arts and crafts projects, challenge themselves on the ropes course, make new friends, and renew old friendships.
