MGM Resorts International Donates $250,000 to Help Build Nevada’s First Fisher House for Military Families
The Fisher House will be built on the site of the new Southern Nevada Veterans Administration Medical Center in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, November, 11, 2014 /3BL Media/ – A longstanding supporter of U.S. military personnel, MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) has pledged $250,000 to the Nevada Military Support Alliance (NMSA) to help build the state’s first Fisher House for military families.
The Fisher House will be built on the site of the Southern Nevada VA Medical Center, and at no cost will house families of patients receiving care at the medical center.
“This donation was totally unexpected,” says Perry Di Loreto, Chairman of NMSA. “We are grateful to MGM Resorts for this outpouring of generosity, which further validates the importance of this project to our military personnel and for our community.”
The Fisher House in Las Vegas will feature 16 suites with private bedrooms and baths. Additionally, the house will include a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and an inviting living room with library, and toys for children.
“On this Veterans Day, and every day, this donation is one of the ways we can show our veterans and their families how much we appreciate the sacrifices they have made,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. “It is critically important for our company, and a key component of our culture, to take care of our veterans and their families as a thank you for their service to our country.”
There are 67 Fisher Houses located throughout the United States. Nevada, however, is the only state with a major military installation—such as Nellis Air Force Base—that does not have a Fisher House.
Working toward a 2015 opening, NMSA is seeking an additional $1 million to complete the Nevada Fisher House project.
