National training at ‘Fondation la main à la pâte‘and the 12th Science Projects Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab
With more than 20 years of practice, Murielle was already long experienced in inquiry-based teaching. However, she considered participating in the Amgen Teach trainings as an opportunity to further engage in inquiry-based activities for adults, to share views with researchers on the process of scientific research and to build inquiry-based pedagogical content together with other participants and trainers. Actually, she believes that her training was in perfect timing: "the curriculum is being fully renovated in France, it is a good opportunity to introduce still more IBSE in our classrooms."
As Murielle understands it, engaging students is already a full-time job and in order to be able to manage it, she needs further input from current scientific advances to keep curiosity alive. The training ‘When life inspires chemists' helped her discover a new field of science she was not familiar with, the study of bio-mineralized materials. "I am sure the training participated indirectly in the motivation of my students, because it motivated me!" she comments in this regard after the training.
Finally, she explains that she has already been sharing the content of the training with other teachers in my middle-school, hoping it will be useful for the them in the same way it was for her.
