Lowe's in the Community: Rebuilding Together's Building a Healthy Neighborhood
I had the pleasure recently to assist in a Rebuilding Together project in the Greater St. Louis area of St. John, MO. I personally had the opportunity to work in the home of Mrs. Jones. Her husband is disabled and on oxygen, and their home was in need of many improvements. We were able to do a number of projects to help them love where they live, including installing grab bars that will help Mr. Jones get in and out of the shower. We also re-caulked the bath tub to lessen the threat of water leaks, which could cause mold and complicate Mr. Jones’ breathing issues. By the end of the project, the Jones’ home had received new floors in several rooms, new shutters, a new deck and many other improvements that made their home look like new!
While I may not feel like a hero, I was certainly touched by The Jones and their story. Getting to work for a company that allows me to touch the lives of folks like these every day is why I work where I do. While Mrs. Jones was not the only person whose life we touched that week, she will be the one I forever remember.
