Lois Steiner - Busy in Retirement, One of Owens Corning's 2021 Top Volunteers
At 83 years old, Lois Steiner is not slowing down. She spends 11 hours every day volunteering at Divine Providence Ministry in Ocala, Florida, where she helps with donations, pickups, and serving those in need.
The agency accepts donations for its thrift store. It seeks to bring dignity to customers and street people by providing reasonably priced necessities they can buy for themselves.
In addition, the ministry distributes donations to other local agencies:
- Appliances and furniture to the Ocala Farm Ministry.
- Furniture to Helping Hands, an agency for single moms recovering from addiction.
- Food and toiletries to a soup kitchen.
- Medical equipment to the needy.
- Wheelchairs to the handicapped.
- Beds to the needy.
- Eyeglasses to the Lions Club.
It also provides financial help to agencies such as A Safe Haven for Newborns, the American Center for Law and Justice, Created Equal, and Life-Can.
The ministry helped build three houses in Haiti, and it sent needed items to residents in Africa, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, India, Philippines, and Puerto Rico.
The Divine Providence Mission Statement is: To serve God by serving His people with honesty and integrity and to use the resources that we receive to protect human life from conception to natural death.
