Lincoln Nonprofits Awarded $75,000 from The Allstate Foundation
Grants continue commitment to Lincoln community, promoting safe and vital communities, financial literacy programs
LINCOLN, Neb., October 7, 2013 /3Bl Media/ – The Allstate Foundation has awarded 10 nonprofits with funding to carry out a diverse set of missions, but each with the goal of improving life in the Lincoln community. The nonprofits were chosen through a process designed to support nonprofit organizations in the areas of safe and vital communities; tolerance, inclusion and diversity; and economic empowerment. With the $75,000 in grants announced today, The Allstate Foundation has awarded $175,000 specifically to Lincoln-area nonprofits over the past three years.
Additionally, Allstate invested more than $162 million in municipalities throughout the state of Nebraska and spent more than $9 million in business-to-business spending in 2012.
“We are proud to support the Lincoln community with grants that also show The Allstate Foundation’s commitment to helping people build safer lives,” said Randy DeCoursey, vice president, Allstate Financial. “Each of these nonprofits does amazing things for the community. From Junior Achievement providing young people with powerful financial knowledge to Voices of Hope assisting survivors of domestic violence, these organizations change people’s lives for the better.”
Beyond providing financial support, Allstate employees in the company’s Lincoln office at 2940 S. 84th St. will have the option of volunteering for these organizations. Allstate’s operations in Lincoln include underwriting, technology, customer service, product development and human resources. In 2012, more than 500 Allstate volunteers supported nonprofits in the Lincoln community.
The Allstate Foundation grants include funding for the following:
Clinic with a Heart - To expand current services and provide patients with health education.
Creating Captains, Inc. - To reach children across the state of Nebraska with summer sports camps for youth, and fight against child hunger in Nebraska through the BackPack Program.
Food Bank of Lincoln, Inc. - To provide weekend meals for children in need in Lincoln and Southeast Nebraska. The program sends a food-filled backpack home with each student on Friday afternoons during the school year.
Heartland Big Brothers-Big Sisters - To provide mentorship opportunities for youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice system.
Junior Achievement of Lincoln - To bring the JA Economics for Success program to more than 1,000 middle school students. The program provides practical information about personal finance and the importance of identifying education and career goals based on a student's skills, interests and values.
Nebraska Council on Economic Education - To sponsor a series of courses, workshops, seminars and events for teachers and students throughout Nebraska that develop a solid understanding of economic and personal finance topics.
City Impact - To support the "Gifts of Love"™ community Christmas store open to Lincoln's low-income families with children. Brand-new gift items are donated and marked down, allowing area families to provide gifts to their loves ones.
People’s City Mission - To support the “Starry Nights” family-friendly community event during the 2013 holiday season.
Teammates Mentoring Program - To assist with the recruitment and training of youth mentors throughout Lincoln, Nebraska.
Voices of Hope - To grow the drop-in support group program that provides assistance on a variety of topics for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
"Thanks to this support, hundreds of youth are realizing their potential and are making a positive impact in their communities,” said Walter Powell, coordinator of TeamMates at Lincoln Public Schools. “These funds help us recruit additional caring volunteers to meet weekly with students, giving them a sense of hope and a vision for their future."
