Lincoln Financial Foundation Awards More Than $675,000 in Grants to Fort Wayne, Ind. Nonprofits

Fort Wayne, Ind., September 27, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Lincoln Financial Foundation is helping individuals experiencing food insecurity and providing other needed social services to low-income and at-risk people in the Fort Wayne area.  Lincoln Foundation recently awarded $675,600 in human services grants to 21 local nonprofit organizations, a portion of $2.5 million in charitable funds that the foundation has allocated for the area in 2013.

Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana received $32,000 to support its Transitions program, which provides specialized services to young clients with developmental disabilities.  The Transitions program serves people ages 13 to 30 and provides services which increase their independence and improve their quality of life.  The program offers daily outings and community experiences, meaningful volunteer opportunities giving clients a chance to practice life skills and vocational skills in real-life settings, and focuses on developing life skills.  Easter Seals ARC is the only provider in the area offering these specialized services to this target population. 

Other human services grants awarded include:

  • $90,000 to Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana to support the Healthy Families Initiative, which includes the Farm Wagon, Community Cupboard, Crisis Assistance and Holiday Food programs.   
  • $72,500 to YWCA Northeast Indiana to support Domestic Violence Services, which provides crisis sheltering, outreach services, education and supportive services for victims of domestic violence.        
  • $43,500 to Aging and In-Home Services to fund the Family Caregiver Program, which provides counseling, support groups, caregiver training, in-home homemaker services, handy chore services, information and assistance in accessing services, and respite care to families caring for older family members.  
  • $41,000 to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home to support the Charity Assistance Program that financially assists patients who need visiting nurse and hospice services but do not have insurance coverage or the financial resources to pay for them.   
  • $38,700 to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana to fund the Client Advocate Program, which provides an advocate for cancer patients and their families to help them access services and resources, including loans of medical equipment, health supplies, transportation, financial assistance, personal appearance items and support groups.   
  • $38,000 to Vincent Village for Vincent House Transitional Shelter, which moves homeless families from emergency shelters to a level of self-sufficiency in which families are able to maintain stable, permanent housing. 
  • $37,000 to AIDS Task Force to fund Outreach Services to groups at high risk for HIV, STD, Hepatitis and AIDS.  
  • $35,000 to Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity to increase the energy efficiency in 12 new homes to be built in 2014.   
  • $31,000 to SCAN, Inc., for Family Restoration Services that help families referred by the courts establish stability and learn how to end the cycle of violence in their lives. 
  • $28,000 to Community Transportation Network to fund medical transportation services for low- income seniors and people with disabilities.   
  • $27,000 to Erin’s House for Grieving Children to support age-appropriate peer support groups and programs for children, teens and young adults who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or loved one.   
  • $27,000 to League for the Blind and Disabled to support the Independent Living Skills Training program, which assists people with severe disabilities gain the personal living skills and services they need to remain in their own home.   
  • $26,000 to Hope House to provide intensive case management and supportive services to assist homeless, chemically dependent women in recovery.         
  • $23,000 to Family & Children’s Services to provide outpatient counseling services for individuals who have behavioral health needs or who are at risk of involvement with alcohol or drugs, and their families.    
  • $22,500 to Community Action of Northeast Indiana for the Family Development Program, a family-focused case management program that provides supportive services to help families in crisis.
  • $17,000 to Interfaith Hospitality Network to provide emergency shelter for homeless families.
  • $16,200 to Center for Nonviolence to fund nonviolence education programs for men, women and youth.   
  • $14,400 to Cedars Hope to fund permanent housing and supportive services for women with mental illness.    
  • $10,800 to Children’s Hope to support the pediatric hospitality house for families caring for hospitalized children.   
  • $5,000 to Healthier Moms and Babies to improve the outcome of pregnancy and reduce infant mortality by providing health education and case management services to low-income, at-risk women.
