Lincoln Financial Foundation Awards $42,000 in Grants to New Hampshire Nonprofits
Grants Totaling $42,000 Awarded
Concord, N.H., September 26, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Grants from Lincoln Financial Foundation are supporting New Hampshire agencies that feed the hungry and provide needed human services to at-risk adults and children through $42,000 in grants to seven local nonprofit organizations. These grants are a portion of nearly $500,000 in charitable funds that the foundation has allocated for New Hampshire in 2013.
The Capitol Region Food Program (CRFP) received $8,000 for its Holiday Food Basket program, which provides items that meet dietary and cultural needs of Concord’s growing immigrant and refugee populations. The program provides food, including poultry, potatoes, carrots, bread, onions and fruit to more than 2,500 families, or about 8,000 individuals. The baskets provide sufficient food for a holiday meal as well as meals for up to two weeks after the holiday. The CRFP continues to see an increase in the number of immigrants in need of its services who have certain dietary and cultural needs with respect to food. Grant support from Lincoln Financial Foundation will be used to purchase the kinds of food items these individual require. CRFP also will use the grant support to offset the rising cost of staples such as tuna fish and peanut butter so that it does not have to reduce the number of these items it provides.
Other human services grants awarded include:
- $7,000 to Riverbend Community Mental Health for the Asperger’s Emotional and Social Enrichment program, which provides a support and education group for parents of children with autism as well as small, focused groups for children with autism spectrum disorder that support skill building.
- $6,500 to the Friends Program for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), which engages seniors with volunteer opportunities that help meet community needs such as food security, physical and mental health, chronic disease prevention and end-of-life care.
- $6,000 to Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire to help develop a new statewide breakfast program for low-income students in collaboration with the New Hampshire Department of Education, New Hampshire School Nutrition Association and New England Dairy Council.
- $6,000 to Grafton County Senior Citizens Council to provide funding for delivery staff to collect and deliver donated food items that will improve access to fresh foods for low-income senior citizens.
- $6,000 to New Hampshire Association for the Blind for peer support programs promoting independent living among people who are newly-blind or visually impaired by organizing structured group interaction with other people facing the same issues.
- $2,500 to Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association for Better Choices, Better Health, a six-week program that helps seniors maintain independent living by increasing exercise, teaching appropriate use of medications and improving communications with healthcare providers and family members.
