LG Recognized Among World's Top 100 Most Sustainable Corporations
Company Earns Highest Ranking Ever by Corporate Knights, Recognized by RobecoSAM for Sustainability Leadership
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Feb. 25, 2019 – LG Electronics (LG) has been named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations by Corporate Knights for a fifth year. LG also just earned the Gold Class distinction in RobecoSAM’s 2019 Sustainability Yearbook.
“Recognition for LG’s sustainability initiatives underscores our company-wide focus on ‘Creating a Better Life with Our Customers’,” said LG Electronics North America President and CEO William Cho. “In the United States, our commitment to the environment is exemplified by delivering energy efficient products, leading the way on electronics recycling, and reducing the carbon footprint of our U.S. facilities, among other initiatives.”
Named to the Global 100 list for five of the last six years, LG ranked 30th in the most recent edition, the company’s highest ranking ever and the highest-rated in the consumer electronics and home appliance industries. Corporate Knights employs a comprehensive, data-driven system to score a company’s sustainability performance based on key performance indicators (KPIs) for their respective industry. The methodology is based on 17 KPIs covering resource, employee, financial management, clean revenue and supplier performance. The firm examined 6,000 of the largest corporations from around the world in order to compile its definitive list of the 100 most sustainable companies.
As one of the top-scoring companies in its industry, LG Electronics qualified for inclusion in RobecoSAM’s 2019 Sustainability Yearbook. LG received Gold Class distinction again this year for its superior sustainability performance. RobecoSAM, an investment firm focused exclusively on sustainability, publishes the Sustainability Yearbook annually listing the world’s most sustainable companies in each industry as determined by their score in RobecoSAM’s annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment. The Sustainability Yearbook provides thought-provoking snapshots of the main trends, challenges and opportunities that connect corporate sustainability initiatives with pro-sustainability investing.
The Corporate Knights and RobecoSAM recognitions come on the heels of LG being named Industry Leader in Leisure Equipment, Products and Consumer Electronics in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). Developed by S&P Dow Jones and RobecoSAM, the DJSI is the first world index to track leading global companies based on analysis of environmental, social and governance practices. More than 2,000 companies are analyzed as part of the DJSI Corporate Sustainability Assessment, and only companies that place in the top 10 percent are listed in the world index.
