Leveraging Partnerships for a Healthier Future
CSX values giving back to communities where we operate – but we know we can’t do it alone.
We work with several groups, including The Conservation Fund, to bring our shared visions to life. As Jena Thompson Meredith, The Conservation Fund’s Vice President of Business Partnerships, recently said, “With each partnership, we demonstrate that smart, collaborative conservation can drive responsible economic development that’s good for the environment and good for people… When you can harness this for good, it’s incredible and catching.”
Since 2007, CSX has worked with The Conservation Fund to draw on our mutual strengths to overcome the systematic barriers to accessing healthy food. Together, we’ve been able to fill a gap in local distribution, bringing fresh, nutritious food to those that need it most.
Highlights of the partnership between CSX and The Conservation Fund include:
- The Grant Program for Transporting Healthy Food, which improves the local transport and distribution of fresh produce and perishable food to communities in need.
- A targeted program in West Virginia that has provided increased access and funding for healthy foods for hundreds of at-risk children and families living below the poverty line.
- A school curriculum created by CSX and The Conservation Fund that teaches kids about the environment, math, science and economics through real-world freight transportation scenarios.
