Lessening the Burden of Non-Communicable Diseases

Fundamental to Pfizer’s approach in supporting global health is helping to ensure that individuals have the opportunity to lead healthy lives.

As a part of its approach, the Pfizer Foundation is supporting projects in eight countries to help lessen the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). These programs aim to increase community awareness of risk factors and preventative measures for NCDs, improve early detection and diagnosis, and increase capacity of community health centers. For example, Pfizer has partnered with FHI 360, an international nongovernmental organization (NGO), to establish a community-based, integrated NCD prevention and control program in Vietnam.

The Pfizer Foundation is also working with organizations to improve access to equitable oncology services, with a focus on women’s cancers, and is exploring opportunities to make oncology outreach, early screening and diagnosis more accessible to underserved women. Projects include a community-based breast cancer program in Peru to improve early detection and link to treatment and services at the national level, along with an initiative to integrate breast cancer patient support, detection and diagnosis into existing primary care services in Northeast Brazil.
