Kohler Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month: Denisse
Denisse De la Cruz, MBA can tell you anything you’d ever want to know about a KOHLER generator.
The KOHLER Energy - Generators project engineer spends her days matching customers with the best product for their needs and assisting mechanics and technicians in troubleshooting any issues that arise.
It’s a role she never expected. As a Mexican woman, Denisse has been keenly aware of the lack of diversity in the engineering field since before college. She even wrangled with her career choice, changing her major four times before deciding to go for it.
“You don’t realize how important diversity is until you don’t have it, but I want to change that,” Denisse explained. “To me, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect on where I’m at, how I can help, and where I can go from here.”
As Denisse’s skillset grows, so does her passion for STEM and encouraging other women and minorities to explore STEM careers. Since joining Kohler in 2018, she has been active in Society of Women Engineers events, as well as Kohler’s business resource groups, sharing her experiences to help provide a sense of belonging to others.
“When I first took this job, I didn’t know the first thing about a generator, and yet here I am today,” she said. “My experience has taught me that I can learn and do anything. Kohler will meet you where you are at.”
