Kimberly-Clark Joins WWF’s Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance to Help Innovate New Materials for the Circular Economy
Last week, Kimberly-Clark introduced an ambitious new sustainability strategy for 2030, which includes a commitment to reducing waste and innovating new ways to give consumers the products they need with the smallest impact on the environment.
The company knows that in order to reduce its plastics footprint by 50% by 2030, it must deliver solutions that use less plastic and more renewable materials and that can be regenerated after use.
That’s why Kimberly-Clark today joined WWF’s Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance (BFA). BFA is a multi-stakeholder forum for collaboration and knowledge sharing to drive the shift towards the responsible sourcing of plant-based plastics known as bioplastics and create a more circular economy.
“The challenges of plastics and single-use products require us to think beyond just recycling schemes, so we’ve set our sights on innovative new materials in plant-based plastics,” said Pete Dulcamara, Technical Vice President and Chief Scientist at Kimberly-Clark. “We see the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance (BFA) with WWF as an important forum to help us achieve this ambition.”
The company also recently joined WWF’s ReSource: Plastic group, an initiative that aims to help companies implement strategies and find solutions that support circularity and end plastic pollution.
“We are committed to doing our part to solve the plastics problem through product and packaging innovation and systems-based solutions,” said Daniel Locke, Global Sustainability Product and Packaging Lead for Kimberly-Clark. “Joining ReSource will help us measure and maximize our impact as we address the issue of plastic waste in our environment.”
As Kimberly-Clark work towards its 2025 and 2030 targets, partnerships like these will be key to driving innovation and action throughout their business.
