Keep America Beautiful's National Day of Action Mobilizes Volunteers Nationwide
Great American Cleanup Encourages Volunteers to Take Action in Their Communities
This weekend, Keep America Beautiful is mobilizing millions of volunteers as part of the Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program that runs from March through May. Every spring, the Great American Cleanup is activated in more than 20,000 communities and engages upwards of 4 million volunteers who take action to improve their local communities.
On Saturday, April 6, Keep America Beautiful is sponsoring its National Day of Action to encourage volunteers to take action in their communities. Volunteers nationwide will participate in recycling events, paint out graffiti, restore vacant lots, build community gardens, clean up litter and debris from roads, waterways and illegal dump sites, and plant thousands of flowers, plants and trees.
In addition, nine locations will lead large-scale cleanups and other coordinated events that positively impact their communities:
- Keep Phoenix Beautiful (nation’s largest vacant lot restoration initiative)
- Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful (build one-acre learning garden serving children)
- Keep Los Angeles Beautiful (graffiti removal in underserved communities)
- Keep Carroll Beautiful (e-waste and household hazardous waste collection)
- Oklahoma City Beautiful (cleanup at Lake Overholser wildlife refuge)
- Keep Ohio Beautiful (statewide roadway cleanup)
- Keep Knox Park Beautiful, Hartford, CT (park cleanup)
- Keep Corpus Christi Beautiful (underwater, water and land cleanup)
- Keep Pearland Beautiful (community cleanup)
