STAMFORD, Conn., April 19, 2017 /3BL Media/ – Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit that envisions a country in which every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live, will rally thousands of volunteers at events across the country on and around Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, as part of its annual Great American Cleanup.

In its 19th year, the 2017 Great America Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program with an estimated 50,000 events occurring from spring through fall in more than 20,000 communities across the country.

The Great American Cleanup will engage more than 5 million volunteers throughout the country to help renew parks, trails and recreation areas; clean shorelines and waterways; remove litter and debris; reduce waste and improve recycling; and plant trees, flowers and community gardens, among other activities to inspire a new generation of community stewards.

“Earth Day is an important moment-in-time to bring attention to the type of work Keep America Beautiful has done for nearly 65 years, powered by our network of 620-plus affiliates and millions of dedicated volunteers to advance our fight to End Littering, Improve Recycling and Beautify America’s Communities,” said Mike Rosen, senior vice president, marketing and communications, Keep America Beautiful. “We’re proud to highlight some of the events taking place on and around Earth Day and encourage everyone to participate in a community improvement event in their hometown.”

Remarkable results are already pouring in from Great American Cleanup events that are happening during Keep America Beautiful Month (April). For example, Keep Brevard Beautiful removed more than 15 tons of debris during its annual Trash Bash and Keep Austin Beautiful removed more than 30 tons of trash across 138 sites in its annual Clean Sweep.
