March 13, 2013 /3BL Media/ - March 13 marks the debut of NO MORE Day, a new annual event designed to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault in this country. From now on, every March 13 will be filled with activities that will increase awareness of and spur action to prevent domestic violence.

For the first time, nearly every organization working to combat domestic violence and sexual assault in the U.S. – whether their focus is women and girls, men and boys, teenagers, children, minorities, rural or urban communities – is converging under one symbol, called “NO MORE.”

The blue NO MORE symbol is focused on changing the way people recognize and talk about domestic violence and sexual assault and then galvanizing them to take action.

Verizon’s commitment to ending domestic violence has run deep for more than a decade. We started by working with domestic violence prevention centers to offer free voice mailboxes to assist victims. Over time, as technology evolved so did our support. Today, Verizon – through its various business units and philanthropic foundation – supports a broad range of programs that include:

  • Training healthcare practitioners and first responders to screen patients for signs of abuse.
  • Engaging men as role models and advocates for prevention.
  • Educating teens about preventing dating violence.
  • Collecting no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories, with proceeds supporting and furthering domestic violence prevention programs.
  • Enabling all Verizon Wireless customers to easily connect with a domestic violence counselor by dialing #4673 (#HOPE).

Tomorrow, our national “A Call To Coaches: Your Voice Counts” training sessions kick off in Charlotte, N.C. The training sessions are part of our ongoing efforts that encourage coaches to serve as role models for young men and teach teens about healthy relationships and prevent teen dating violence.

These are just a few initiatives that Verizon is undertaking to help end and bring awareness to domestic violence.

Verizon is proud to join many other concerned businesses, organizations and individuals in the “NO MORE” campaign.
