Who are we and what do we do:
Ruby’s Place is the first domestic violence shelter incorporated in the State of California and Alameda County in 1972. We serve women and children who are homeless due to domestic violence and human trafficking. Our purpose is to foster a wellness based and culturally responsive community providing emergency shelter and supportive services to women and children who experience domestic violence, human trafficking, and homelessness.
The mission and purpose has expanded throughout the years to become a shelter with comprehensive services to assist in the healing process and begin the journey to becoming independent and stable. Last year 83% of our clients came to our facility due to a violent crime and 17% due to non-violent homelessness. Out of the 245 unduplicated clients we served, 153 were children.
