HARRISBURG, Pa., May 20, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Keystone Human Services is proud to announce that Jerome Williams, a direct support professional (DSP) for Keystone Human Services, received the 2016 Pennsylvania Direct Support Professional of the Year Award from ANCOR (American Network of Community Options and Resources).

Given annually, this award honors a DSP who has been exemplary in their service to the mission of the nominating agency. By nominating Jerome, Keystone Human Services recognizes his dedication to and advocacy for support people to live in the community and pursue their goals and dreams.

Jerome works in KHS’s Intellectual Disabilities Services in Central PA and spends time building strong, trusting relationships with the people he supports. He has a talent for discovering their true character. He recognized the care, compassion, creativity, and talent of one young man who had grown up in harsh economic conditions and wanted to help others in his community. Jerome supported this young man to create a nonprofit sports-based program geared toward young men. This Hoops 4 Hoops Sports League is now a successful and widely known program.

Jerome is also a passionate advocate for the people he supports. One 95-year-old woman was able to stay in her own apartment rather than move to a nursing home because he established life-line services, built relationships with neighbors and the landlord, and scheduled assistance so she could maintain her daily routine.

KHS thanks Jerome for exceeding expectations every day and demonstrating what it means to “advance the human spirit” of everyone he meets.

Jerome received his award at the ANCOR Annual Conference on May 3, 2016. ANCOR is the national association of residential service providers who benefit people with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, and those experiencing mental illness.
