The IVECO Stralis NP 460 LNG Truck Breaks Ice Driving Record in Buryatia, Russia
IVECO, the commercial vehicle brand of CNH Industrial N.V., showcased their Stralis NP 460 LNG, liquefied natural gas powered truck, earlier this year at the Baikal Mile Speed Festival in Buryatia, in Eastern Siberia, Russia, setting a new, record breaking top speed for a LNG truck on ice of 89.38km/hour.
According to the rules of the festival, races are held over two distances - 1/8 mile and one mile. This year, the festival was attended by over 70 teams from Russia and other countries, and at their disposal were more than 110 units of racing equipment, whose tires were equipped with special spikes to ensure optimal traction on ice.
Gazprom LNG Technology, which has partnered with IVECO in promoting the use of liquefied natural gas as a fuel in Russia, participated in the festival with the IVECO Stralis NP 460 truck. This truck set a new speed record for a LNG powered truck on a one mile ice road – 89.38km/h.
The truck was powered by liquefied natural gas, one of the most environmentally friendly fuels. When compared to diesel it can reduce particulate emissions by up to 95% and reduce NO2 emissions by up to 90%. When using biomethane, CO2 can be reduced by up to 95%.
In order to maintain the cleanliness of the lake, following the inevitable spring thaw, the festival organizers, together with ecologists and local residents, paid special attention to compliance with modern environmental safety standards. Festival participants also contributed to the fund for the conservation of the region’s nature and the purity of Lake Baikal. All racing equipment for the festival was prepared in strict accordance with the technical regulations, to help reduce its environment impact.
