International Paper Receives Sustainability Award in Spain
Community of Madrid Awards: International Paper recognized for its long-standing commitment to the circular economy.
Madrid, Spain, March 8, 2021 /3BL Media/ – International Paper, a global leader in renewable packaging solutions, was recognized for its long-standing commitment to the circular economy during the third edition of the Community of Madrid Awards. The company received the award in the category "Sustainability in Paper and Packaging Solutions" in recognition of the significant sustainability contribution it is making in Spain. More specifically, the award acknowledges International Paper as best in class when it comes to promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, coupled with a strong focus on creating innovative, sustainable and recyclable products that provide lasting value to customers and society.
Granted annually by the national newspaper La Razón, the award series includes a total of 12 awards in different categories, and aims at showcasing and rewarding the expertise, creativity, and effort of those professionals and companies who make the Madrid region a reference in the country and abroad.

International Paper operates a recycled containerboard mill in Madrid (Fuenlabrada) along with its associated recycling business CARPA, as well as eight corrugated packaging plants across the country. The Madrid Mill was the first European recycled containerboard mill to operate a closed circuit of 100% recycled water, while being self-sufficient in energy production, and additionally generating 10% of biogas in its operations. CARPA is one of the largest collectors of waste paper in the region of Madrid.
