International Paper Provides Funding to Mid-South Food Bank
Donation provides additional support to fight food insecurity in the company’s hometown
MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 27, 2020 /3BL Media/ – International Paper has made a $220,000 donation to Mid-South Food Bank to support year-round hunger relief efforts. The donation is above and beyond the company’s recurring $100,000 pledge to support the organization’s ability to respond to food insecurity in its 31-county service region.
"With this generous gift – equivalent to more than 665,000 meals – we can continue to distribute food, as well as hope, to so many who are struggling in this Covid-19 emergency," said Mid-South Food Bank President & CEO Cathy Pope. "We are distributing food at an unprecedented rate because we know the people we serve do not have the resources to stock up, and with kids out of school plus job losses due to business closures, people are hurting. We're here to make food one less thing they have to worry about."
International Paper's latest donation provides additional funding to help ensure Mid-South Food Bank can continue to fulfill its mission to change lives by eliminating hunger in the Mid-South. This support is just one example of International Paper’s commitment to the company’s signature causes, which include education, hunger, health and wellness, disaster relief and initiatives that improve the planet.
“We are commited to mobilizing our resources to address critical needs in the communities where our more than 50,000 employees live and work,” said Dr. Alissa Campbell Shaw, senior manager, Community Engagement, International Paper and executive director, IP Foundation. “We commend the strategic and critically important work that our hometown food bank does to takle food insecurity in our community.”
