ILFI Honors Stephen R. Kellert Legacy with the First Biophilic Design Award
Biophilic Design is the Practice Of Connecting People And Nature Within Our Built Environments and Communities
SEATTLE, July 19, 2017 /3BL Media/ - The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) is honoring the late scholar and Yale University social ecologist Stephen R. Kellert’s legacy with the first ever, biophilic design award. Mr. Kellert was a pioneer in the practice of connecting people and nature within our built environments and communities.
The award is stewarded by the ILFI’s Biophilic Design Initiative. Projects will be judged based on the following criteria:
- INTEGRATION of Biophilic Design
- EXPRESSION of Biophilic Design
- EXPERIENCE of Biophilic Design
- EVALUATION of Biophilic Design
The jury for the Kellert Biophilic Design Award includes:

Exemplary projects will be recognized as leaders through the ILFI's global network and will receive recognition from our media partners. One award will be given for a project that demonstrates the Biophilic Design Elements and Attributes that Kellert developed, as well as up to 5 honorable mentions. The award will be given in Boston during a Greenbuild Conference shoulder event in November 2017.
“Mr. Kellert championed the wide spread adoption of biophilic design encouraging us to harmonize the relationship between people and nature,” said Amanda Sturgeon, CEO, ILFI. “Our hope with this award is that Mr. Kellert’s legacy lives on as we commit to reconnecting people and nature through buildings.”
