Ikea has announced its new palm oil policy. The global home furnishing company committed to sourcing palm oil that is grown and processed sustainably. The goal is to source 100 percent certified sustainable palm oil from segregated sources. Ikea will work with its suppliers and stakeholders to ensure the chain of custody for the palm oil used in its products and that standards are continuously improved.
By December 2015, all palm oil used in home furnishing or food products will come from either certified segregated sources or be replaced by a more sustainable material. Ikea requires its palm oil suppliers to make sure they meet certain requirements, which include:
- No deforestation. Ikea is committed to protecting forests of high value, and believes all new palm oil developments must come from land where natural vegetation and biodiversity are already very degraded.
- No new development on peat.
