IBM Launching Teacher TryScience in Kenya

The Ministry of Education and Science in Kenya recently launched the national roll out of Teachers TryScience. This is hugely significant for Kenya where they note that "The future prosperity of Kenya depends on young people choosing STEM related subjects." Currently only 2% of students study STEM subjects at tertiary level.

The event was attended by 30 County Directors of Education, and led by a representative of the Cabinet Secretary from the Ministry of Education. In his speech he emphasized the importance of STEM education for developing a set of critical capabilities. He remarked how Teachers TryScience enables that through lesson plans, teaching strategies and resources, and collaboration tools for teachers, and said it will help deliver the country agenda to reform education and training.

The launch followed a pilot started last year in 10 counties, with 87 teachers from 45 schools trained, and a very strong evaluation. The program will now go to all 47 counties with a 5 days training program for 3,700 teachers to start in January.
