HP Tops List of Most-Community-Minded Companies in Tech Industry
Every day, HP employees around the globe think beyond their job descriptions to make it matter in their communities. They build a stronger HP by volunteering time and technical expertise to tackle critical social and environmental issues, providing relief efforts when disaster strikes and participating in employee giving campaigns. It’s part of our heritage. In fact, our founders, Bill and Dave, first put Global Citizenship on the list of HP’s corporate objectives in 1957.
Today, 56 years later, HP was recognized along with America’s top community-minded companies at an awards ceremony held by The Civic 50, an organization that surveys and ranks S&P 500 companies based on contributions to communities in which they do business. HP achieved top 50 status and also was honored with first place in both the Technology Industry and Measuring Impact awards categories.
The Civic 50’s 2013 survey was conducted by leading experts on civic engagement—The National Conference on Citizenship and Points of Light—and results were announced in partnership with Bloomberg News. The top 50 companies were named in alphabetical order and, to facilitate idea sharing and learning, they also were ranked in industry sectors and various awards categories.
Of the companies surveyed, HP was recognized as:
#1 - Best in Technology Industry
#1 - Best in “Measuring Impact”
#2 - Best in “Fostering Civic Culture”
#3 - Best in “Business Integration”
#3 - Best in Large Market Cap
These rankings reflect our continued focus on using our time, talent, and resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where we do business.
They also are a positive continuation of the Points of Light Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence that HP was awarded in June 2013.
“It’s inspiring to see how HP employees are changing the world,” said Caroline Barlerin, director of Corporate Affairs, HP. “The energy and commitment to making lasting, significant contributions—at all levels of the company— is truly remarkable.”
This commitment is central to our corporate purpose of advancing the way people live and work, whether that happens through innovative technology or employee volunteerism. We believe that being a good corporate citizen is integral to our innovation, performance and sustainable growth in the future.
