HP Recognized for Environmental Commitment
Company named an industry leader for sustainability efforts
HP’s commitment to environmental stewardship and addressing climate change has been recognized in two influential environmental reports that rank the world’s leading sustainability companies.
First, we are among the top companies named to the 2012 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, which measures a company’s economic, environmental, and social performance. And for the second consecutive year, we are featured in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index issued by the Carbon Disclosure Project, which ranks companies on the transparency and progress they have made on their carbon emissions and climate change goals.
“We are proud to remain at the forefront of the sustainability movement,” said Gabi Zedlmayer, vice president, Sustainability and Social Innovation. “Earning recognition on these two indexes demonstrates our commitment to reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, paper use, water consumption, and waste. HP is particularly focused on greater transparency in data collection around GHG emissions, which not only leads to greater insight, but also greater action that better prepares us to operate in a low-carbon economy.”
Improving on our success
These achievements are also significant because they reflect major improvements in HP’s overall scores in both rankings.
The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index ranks HP among the top 10 percent of the 2,500 largest companies on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.
HP was also named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, which represents the top 20 percent of the 600 largest U.S. and Canadian companies on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.
In this year’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, HP’s disclosure score was 92 out of 100—which represents an eight point improvement over our 2011 score. It also places us in the top 10 percent of companies on the list.
Making a difference
These results underscore HP’s overall commitment to sustainability, climate protection, and carbon reduction. They also reflect our belief as a company that through our environmental programs and technology we have the power to change the world for the better while using fewer resources.
