How Sustainable Are Corporate Pensions?
Climate change, the low-carbon transition and sustainable development pose some of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. The global transition is well underway and has urgent and wide-ranging implications for companies, policymakers and investors. This requires integrated thinking across the board from corporates - but do workplace pensions schemes and business strategies sufficiently reflect this?
Sustainable investments have grown globally to US$22.89 trillion1 and continues to gain momentum. A growing body of evidence shows that environment, social and governance (ESG) management leads to superior portfolio performance over the long term.
In partnership with Sustineri, Corporate Citizenship are surveying companies to gather insights on how well aligned sustainability and CSR commitments are with ESG strategies for workplace pensions. This research forms part of Corporate Citizenship’s Long Term Value Project.
Esther Toth, Director at Corporate Citizenship comments: “Many companies claim that sustainability issues present significant risks and opportunities to their business. But how many have considered these issues in relation to corporate investments such as pension schemes? Our new research aims to highlight the opportunity to better align the investment practices of pension schemes with corporate sustainability ambitions.”
