Honoring Mom at the Austin Marathon
Honoring Mom at the Austin Marathon
I am always blown away by our phenomenal Team LIVESTRONG participants. This weekend’s team for the Austin Marathon was no exception. A crew of 31 team members raised $22,000 to support LIVESTRONG‘s programs and services. We are so grateful for all their efforts.
My job allows me to get to meet inspiring people who have overcome big challenges. Many of those on Team LIVESTRONG are there in support or in memory of someone that has fought cancer. People like Whitley Priddy. Whitley ran in honor of her mother – a thyroid cancer survivor and she shared her inspiration with us.
“My mother, Elizabeth is the strongest woman I know. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 27, which metastasized to her bronchial tubes. While not only handling the treatment that ensued, she was also busy attending college, raising three young children, and everything in between. Throughout the past 19 years since being diagnosed, she has been nothing short of strong. I decided that in honor of my mother, I would run the Austin half marathon for LIVESTRONG in order to help others who have/had fought the cancer battle.”
Thank you Whitley and thank you to all of our runners. We appreciate each and every one of you.
