Holland America Line Employees Receive President’s Volunteer Service Award
Volunteers Recognized for Their Work with the Seattle Ronald McDonald House
Seattle, Wash., May 2, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Holland America Line employee volunteers recently received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their work with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington & Alaska. At a reception at Hotel Deca in Seattle April 23, Vice President of Guest Programs Tim Murphy and Administrative Assistant Sherri Warner accepted the award on behalf of their fellow employee volunteers.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize valuable contributions volunteers are making in their communities and to encourage more people to serve. The council created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who have inspired others to engage in volunteer service.
“Volunteerism is a large part of the culture at Holland America Line and we are both proud and honored to be recognized for supporting our local community,” said Richard Meadows, Holland America Line’s executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. “Our employees have a passion for devoting their time to great organizations such as the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, and we’re humbled by this award.”
Holland America Line employees sponsored and served evening meals at the Seattle Ronald McDonald House during 2012, donating more than 200 hours of service time. Volunteers also hosted game and craft activities for the children. Members of Holland America Line’s Guest Programs Department have volunteered to sponsor and serve meals again in 2013.
The Seattle Ronald McDonald House is available to families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The House can accommodate up to 80 guests per night and relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to provide its many services, including meals.
