Javier Moya, a Bechtel project controls engineer, initially became interested in a STEM career because of his father. “Colleagues call my father an engineer amongst engineers,” he says. “He is passionate about the engineering field and about working with people. He enjoys the technical aspect of his professional above all else. He thrives on solving complex problems. That intellectual curiosity has been passed on to my brothers and me.” His parents encouraged STEM-related activities around their home, too. "My mom taught me how to cook using the exact measurements, and she encouraged music which has a STEM component," he recalls. "My father taught math concepts through chess, LEGOs, assembling robots, and home repairs. This stuck with me, ultimately leading me to become a project controls engineer."
