Henry County Middle School Receives a Grant from Recyclebank and Coca-Cola for Green Schools Program

(3BL Media) New York, NY and McDonough, GA - May 24, 2012 - Yesterday, the City of McDonough and Recyclebank® announced that Henry County Middle School had reached its fundraising goal and received a grant for the Recyclebank Green Schools program, which awards schools funds for unique student projects that will green their classrooms and communities. The grant will fund the school’s green school project, a recycled cardboard art project. This is the second year in a row that Henry County Middle School has been awarded a grant. The ceremony was held at Henry County Middle School and included remarks by representatives from the school, the City of McDonough, Recyclebank, Republic Services and Coca-Cola.

Schools across the country participate in the Green Schools program by submitting green project proposals to Recyclebank.  Recyclebank members donated their points to help fund the schools’ projects, and Recyclebank matched member point donations dollar-for-dollar. A critical program partner is Coca-Cola, which helped schools across the U.S. meet their target grant goal and make their green project ideas a reality by donating funds.

Check presentation ceremony at the school hosted by the City of McDonough, Recyclebank and Coca-Cola. Representatives presented Henry County Middle School with a $2,500 check for their participation in the Recyclebank Green Schools program.

The school’s Green Plan teaches students to bring in recyclable-thin-cardboard boxes such as an empty cereal box or frozen pizza box, so that they may see that it is just as necessary to bring in cardboard to be reused and recycled as it is for cans, plastics and glass. With the cardboard scraps, students will create a collage that will be displayed at the school as a reminder that the Henry County Middle School recycles, and so that other classes adopt the recycled sketchbook project.
